This is the first lesson we treated at the beginning of the term .And I would like to take this opportunity to remind us of what we studied.
To begin our lesson,Iet me ask you this question.

What is a subject in a sentence?
We studied in our previous lesson that a _sentence is a group of words put together to make a complete thought._ It was under this topic we came across the  "the subject of a sentence"
And what did we say a subject in a sentence is?
We said that a subject in a sentence is what or whom the sentence is about.

Let's identify the subject in this sentence....

1. My sisters eat the food.
>In  order to identify the subject in this sentence, we need to ask the "what" or "whom" question .That is ,who ate the food?My sisters.
Therefore my sisters become our subject

2.The car was parked under the tree.

Let's identify the subject.
What was parked under the tree? The car.
Therefore the car becomes our subject.
Since we now understand what a subject is.

What then is subject verb agreement?
Subject verb agreement shows the balance between the subject and the main verb in a given sentence. Grammarians at times refer to subject verb agreement as concord

Rules on subject verb agreement..

GENERAL RULE
A singular subject must go with a singular verb while a plural subject must go with a plural verb.

Note that: singular means one while plural means more than one

considering the general rule let's take these  examples

1.The boy eats the rice.
The subject " The boy " is singular and therefore must agree with a singular verb" eats "

2.The boys eat the rice.
The subject " The boys "is plural and therefore must agree with the plural verb" *eat*
"

NOTE: In English, singular subjects end in either"s","es",or"ies".
