TRADITIONAL ACTS OF WORSHIP-SACRIFICE


 TYPES OF SACRIFICE 
  • Human or Animal sacrifice:humans or animals are offered to the gods .eg .goat, sheep, fowl etc
  • Preventive sacrifice : it is offered to ward off evil or misfortune.
  • Votive sacrifice:it is offered in fulfillment of a promise or a vow made by a worshiper while he asks a favour from the spirit forces.
  • Propitiatory or appeasement sacrifice:it is offered to placate or satisfy or calm a deity.
  • Thanksgiving sacrifice:it is offered in appreciation of some successes achieved or to show gratitude a deity.
  • Substitution sacrifice:it is offered to redeem the offer whom may be under the anger of ancestors or evil spirit.
  • Meal and drink sacrifice:it is offered in the form of food and drink.
  • Tangible and intangible sacrifice:sacrifice that can seen and sacrifice that can not be seen physically...eg. goat and service respectively.
  • Integrative sacrifice:is meant to establish blood covenant .
  • Blood sacrifice: it takes the form of blood offering of either human being or animal.
  • Communal and individual sacrifice:sacrifice done by the whole community and sacrifice performed by an individual respectively.

Give five (5) advantages of sacrifices to the worshiper.
