ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL OF UNO

It is the one of the major organs of the UNO.
It composed of 54 member countries.
The members are elected to serve a three - year term.
It holds a two regular sessions every year.

FUNCTIONS OF THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL 

1. It encourages co-operation among member States.
2. It makes recommendations to the general Assembly.
3. It is responsible for promotion of respect for the fundamental human rights.
4. It co-ordinates the work of UN in in the field of economic.
5. It has right to organize international conferences.
