SIMULTANEOUS EQUATIONS(ELIMINATION METHOD)

INTRODUCTION
Simultaneous equations are equations which are true at the same time. I. E. simultaneously. To solve a pair of equation in two variables such as x-y=1 and x+y=5 simultaneously, you have to be familiar with the following methods.
I. Elimination
2. Subtutution
At this level only pairs of Simultaneous equations in two unknown variables are solved. For example, in the equation x-y=1 and x+y=5,the two variables are x and.
Two solve two Simultaneous linear equations, you must find the value the value of x and y, which make both the equation true simultaneously(at the same time). The solution of the above simultaneous equation are x=3 and y=2. These values fit both equations simultaneously. i.e x-y=3-2=1 and x+y=3+2=5

GENERAL STEPS FOR SOLVING SIMULTANEOUS LINEAR EQUATION
Elimination method
To solve Simultaneous equations by elimination.
STEP 1: Check whether the coefficients of the variable you want to eliminate are the same as both equations. If they are not the same, make sure they are the same by multiplying one or both of the equation by a constant. Note that for 2x, we say 2 is the coefficient of x.

STEP 2: After making sure the coefficient are the same, add the two equations if the sign of the variable you want to eliminate in the two equations are different(i.e one is positive and the other is negative). Subtract one equation from the other if the signs of that variable in both equations are the same(i.e both negative or positive). Doing this will eliminate the variable.

STEP 3: After eliminating one variable, solve the remaining equation for the other variable and substitute the value obtained into any of the equation to get the value of the eliminated variable.

NOTE: As a check, substitute the values obtained into both of the original equations to see whether they satisfy them.

STEP 4: Check your solutions
