INCREASING OR DECREASING A QUANTITY IN A GIVEN RATIO
A quantity can be increased or decreased in a given ratio by multiplying it by a suitable fraction. If a price increase in the ratio 3:2, then multiply by the fraction 3/2.

EXAMPLE
1. Increase $450,000 in the ratio 7:5
2. Decrease 60 km in the ratio 5:8

Solution
1. $450,000 × 7/5 = $630,000

2. 60km × 5/8 = 37.5 km


ASSIGNMENT 
1. Express 20 cm to 15 m in the form 1:n.
2. Increase $35000 in the ratio 9:7
3. Increase 4.4kg in the ratio 15:11
4. Decrease 56 in the ratio 5:8
5. Decrease 51.3 in the ratio 2:3
