INCREASING OR DECREASING A QUANTITY IN A GIVEN RATIO
A quantity can be increased or decreased in a given ratio by multiplying it by a suitable fraction. If a price increase in the ratio 3:2, then multiply by the fraction 3/2.EXAMPLE
1. Increase $450,000 in the ratio 7:5
2. Decrease 60 km in the ratio 5:8
Solution
1. $450,000 × 7/5 = $630,000
2. 60km × 5/8 = 37.5 km
