Safety is the condition of being protected against hazard.
Safety signs give information on safety to those in the vicinity especially when all other methods used to control hazards have failed.
Although safety devices are found at workplaces to reduce accidents and to protect human lives, there are safety signs printed and fixed to areas ( like doors, cupboard, chemical bottles, back of trucks etc) that humans are likely to see.
TYPES OF SAFETY SIGNS
1. There are two main types of safety signs.2. These are permanent and occasional safety signs.
3. Under permanent safety signs, there are prohibitory, warning and mandatory safety signs.
PERMANENT SAFETY SIGNS
1. These are safety signs used for prohibitions, warnings and mandatory requirements.2. They are used for identifying emergency escape routes.
3. They are also used for identifying first aid facilities and fire fighting equipment easily.
PROHIBITORY SAFETY SIGNS
1. These are permanent safety signs used for prohibiting behavior likely to cause danger or accident.2. Examples of behavior likely to cause danger and for that matter accident include whilst operating a machine, running, eating at the workplace and U_ turning of vehicle at places where it goes from not allowed.
