The English alphabet is divided into two different sounds. These are vowels and consonants.

'A' and 'An' are called indefinite articles. An indefinite article is used before a singular noun that names a person, place or thing that is not specific.
HOW TO USE "A" OR "AN"
If a word begins with a vowel use "an" before the word .Such a word is always singular.Examples:
- I have an apple in my bag.
- I saw an orange on the table.
- An elephant is the biggest animal.
- I have an umbrella.
If a word begins with a consonant use "a".
Examples:
- A man came here.
- I want a pencil.
- I have a friend called King.
