DIVISION OF FRACTIONS BS 6

In order to divide a fraction say 1/3 by 2/5, the second fraction is turned upside down to give 5/2 and then the first (1/3) is multiplied by 5/2. i.e. 1/3 ÷ 2/5 = 1/3 × 5/2 = 5/6
Mixed numbers must first be changed to improper fractions before dividing.

EXAMPLE
1. 1/2 ÷ 1/4 = 1/2 × 4/1 = 2

2. 6 ÷ 1/3 = 6/1 × 3/1 = 18
