PARTS OF A PLANT BS2


Plants are living things just like animals. Plants have different parts just like the human body.The three main parts of a plant are,
1.Roots
2.Stem
3.Leaves
There are also other parts of plant.These are branches,Flowers and fruits.The parts of a plant above the soil are the stem,leaves and flowers and also the part of a plant under the soil is the root.Some plants have flowers, others do not have flowers.

THE ROOT 
Roots are of different kinds.some plants have thick roots and others too have a number of thin shorts roots.

THE USES (FUNCTIONS) OF  ROOTS 
1.The roots hold the plant well in the soil.
2.The roots take in water from the soil.
3.The roots of some plants store food.for example,cassava, carrot and cocoyam store food in their roots.

THE STEM 
The stem is the part of plant that holds it upright.Again,some stems are soft,for example tomato plants.Other stems too are weak.They cannot hold the plant upright.

THE USES (FUNCTIONS) OF STEM
1.The stem joins the roots to other parts of the plant.
2.The stem helps the plant to stand up straight.
3.The stem supports the branches and leaves.
4.Water travels from the roots to the leaves through the stem
